Vitrology
Facilities
The Vitrology facility is situated in the Clydebank Business Park
with over 70 companies currently located in the park and 3,500 people
employed. From 1996 to 2004, 184,700 sq ft of business space has
been occupied at the park, demonstrating the growth potential for
the area. Clydebank Business Park is one of only three areas in
Scotland to have been granted Pathfinder status by the Urban Regeneration
Company and has received a funding boost of £7 million from
the Scottish Executive. It is ideally located for transport links
to Glasgow International Airport, and Singer Railway station adjoins
the park.
In April 2007 we acquired the facility. It is a well suited property
that was previously extensively refitted as a biomedical research
facility at a cost of over £1M and consists of a 652 sq metre
two story complex divided into scientific laboratories, support
areas and office accommodation. We moved into our laboratories and
further developed them in two phases. Phase one, the North Wing
of our facility development, was completed in mid 2007 and is mainly a
laboratory area dedicated to cell and virus culture, bio-bank storage,
in-vitro adventitious agent testing, QFPERT, electron microscopy
preparation and general laboratory operations. The South Wing was
phase two of our development and this was completed at the end of
2007, accommodating our multiple Minilab Molecular Biology Suite
and Electron Microscopy imaging operations.
The laboratories have dedicated air handling systems that provide
either containment (ACDP Category II) where operations are carried
out in Class II Biological Safety Cabinets or positive pressure
protective environments where operations are carried out in PCR
Laminar Air Flow Cabinets to avoid cross contamination risks. The
facility is designed for optimal process flow from receipt of client
samples through laboratory operations to study report. The layout
of the laboratory and support areas has been designed with the primary
focus of preventing cross contamination risks.
A comprehensive range of new laboratory equipment including refrigerated
storage, incubators, centrifuges and analytical equipment has been
installed in our laboratories and is managed by a cGMP compliant
Validation Master Plan with IQ, OQ and PQ qualification. Vitrology's
calibration and maintenance policy ensures a high level of confidence
in the availability and integrity of all our equipment and includes
a dedicated equipment monitoring system that constantly
supervises our storage and processing equipment, and enables charts
confirming equipment operating temperatures to be produced on demand. |
